Arsenal are poised for a busy summer which includes the addition of multiple attacking reinforcements, and they've been linked with a stunning move for Manchester United winger Antony, currently on loan at Real Betis.
Supporters are clamouring for a new number nine this summer, with new sporting director Andrea Berta aiming to secure the services of Sporting CP hitman Viktor Gyokeres. However, the Gunners also require greater variation and unpredictability in wide areas to bolster their work in the final third.
Mikel Arteta is a known admirer of Athletic Club's Nico Williams, while Rafael Leao and Ademola Lookman are thought to be on the club's radar. Very few supporters would've thought Antony would be a person of interest, however, for their projected frontline overhaul ahead of the 2025/26 season.
According to Brazilian outlet UOL, the Gunners are one of several clubs to make enquiries about Antony regarding a potential summer transfer. Man Utd's second most expensive signing ever failed to live up to his lofty price tag at Old Trafford and joined Betis on loan during the January transfer window.
Escaping the sky-high expectations which followed him to Manchester, Antony has shone in Spain under Manuel Pellegrini. The winger's recorded five goal contributions in 12 La Liga appearances and is leading Betis' charge to the Conference League final. He starred in the round of 16 tie against Vitoria Guimaraes and was on the scoresheet in their 2-1 win over Fiorentina in the semi-final first leg.
Despite his success in La Liga, Antony has no future at United and a permanent departure is expected this summer. Signed under Erik ten Hag's watch in 2022, the Red Devils have no chance of coming close to recuperating the £86m it cost to prise him away from Ajax. A sale in the region of £25m-£35m is more likely, with his excellent form at Betis aiding his stock greatly.
While Arsenal are reportedly intrigued, a return to La Liga is also on the cards. Atletico Madrid are said to be interested, and Betis will surely be tempted to negotiate his permanent arrival.
