FC Barcelona faced Athletic Club in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final and managed to beat the Basque club 2-0 to book a place for themselves in the finals of the competition and await to see if they will face Mallorca or Real Madrid in the final.

It was not a vintage display from Hansi Flick’s team but they did enough to ensure they got the better of Athletic Club on the night. Goals from Gavi and Lamine Yamal helped the team secure their place in the final, although Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha will have to take a hard look into the mirror regarding their finishing on the night.

Amid everything that is going on the pitch and registration issues off the pitch, one news that is gathering momentum with every passing day this transfer window is the future of one of the club captains, Ronald Araújo who seems to have one foot out of the door.

Juventus has been one club whose name is doing the rounds with regards to a transfer for the Uruguayan center-back but now, as per Mundo Deportivo, Arsenal have joined the Italian side and registered interest in the player.

The Gunners have been linked with a transfer for the 25-year-old Uruguayan defender for quite some time now, with interest dating back to the summer and it looks like Mikel Arteta will continue to push to secure his signature.

Juventus on the other hand have left captain Danilo out of their project and given him the directive to leave the club this winter transfer window and Thiago Motta could look at Araújo as the leader that the backline needs.

The major concern for Barcelona is that Araújo’s contract ends in 2026 and he is yet to put pen to paper on a new contract. The fans would love nothing more than for the Uruguayan to extend his stay but if he doesn’t sign a new deal, earning money from his sale is important.

The report mentions that the Gunners are willing to bid strongly for Araújo but the player might not prefer moving to the Emirates considering displacing William Saliba and Gabriel might not be easy. Juventus on the other hand might entice him and let’s wait and see how it plays out.
