Arsenal are reportedly set to target Viktor Gyokeres this summer as the solution to their striker problems.
It is no secret that the Gunners are in the market for a centre forward. It will be their top priority this summer after failing to sign one in January.
Gyokeres has established himself as one of the hottest talents in Europe over the past two seasons. The Sporting CP forward has fired in an astounding 30 goals in just 26 league appearances so far this campaign and has also netted six times in his eight Champions League appearances.
It is no surprise that Gyokeres has many admirers at top clubs across Europe and the Athletic report that Andrea Berta is among them.
Berta is joining Arsenal after leaving Atletico Madrid and will be the club’s new sporting director and the Italian will have heavy influence on Arsenal’s business in what is expected to be a big summer transfer window. It is believed that Gyokeres has an £83 million release clause. However, the BBC report that he could be bought for as little as £63 million.
Should Arsenal turn their attention to Gyokeres, it would hand Man United a boost in their efforts to sign Hugo Ekitike. The Eintracht Frankfurt striker’s impressive displays has caught the eye of Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool and more.
Ruben Amorim’s side have already been handed an advantage in the race for his signature. The Daily Mirror revealed that the Frenchman was a boyhood United fan.
However, this will not make it any easier for Frankfurt to part ways with the forward. It is believed that the Bundesliga side will hold out for a £60 million fee.
Thomas Muller is another Bundesliga attacker that could be switching clubs, although in very different circumstances. The Bayern Munich legend is out of contract at the end of the season and it is unclear whether there will be an extension to the 35-year-old’s deal with the German giants.
According to Sky Germany, a number of MLS clubs have made offers to the veteran forward with his departure is now looking increasingly likely.
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is a striker that recently left Bayern Munich and switched to the MLS. The Cameroonian joined New York Red Bulls and was questioned on Muller’s situation this weekend.
Speaking to Kicker, Choupo-Moting said: “He is welcome here. Thomas, you already speak English, so.. Jokes aside, I have no idea. Thomas is a Bayern legend, so I’d be happy for him if he continues there. But if he wants to make this step, we’ll see. Thomas, I’m watching you.”
