In a shattering blow for Liverpool, Premier League rivals, Arsenal, have reportedly agreed personal terms with Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi.
Zubimendi was the subject of a summer bid from Liverpool, but ultimately the the Spanish international decided against the move to Anfield.
Now it seems, he is closer than ever to a Premier League switch, but to the Gunners rather than the Reds.
According to Football Transfers, the 25-year-old midfielder has agreed personal terms with the North Londoners, and the outlet note that a January move isn’t out of the question either.

Having already signed Mikel Merino from La Real, Arsenal can be assured that the settling in process should be that much easier for a player who has a clear and obvious attachment to his boyhood club.
Zubimendi’s release clause is set at €60/£52m, and it’s understood that this won’t be a problem for the Gunners.
Whether it is this month or the summer when the player decides to make the leap from La Liga to the Premier League, he’ll add some significant bite as well as creativity to Arsenal’s midfield.
It’s a cogent argument that Mikel Arteta needs a striker as a priority rather than mining for gold in other at one of his old clubs, however, if the Arsenal board are willing to back their manager in the transfer market, then fans of the club need to ‘trust the process’ as it were.
Injuries notwithstanding, the squad are still showing signs of improvement in terms of putting Arteta’s ideas into practice, and if they can find the type of consistency that Liverpool have shown during the 2024/25 campaign, a maiden Premier League title under the Spaniard shouldn’t be too far away.
