Real Madrid star Arda Guler has hit back at Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai as their row continues to escalate online.
The duo clashed during Sunday night’s Nations League play-off second-leg tie in Budapest, which the visitors won decisively again 3-0 to follow Thursday’s initial 3-1 victory in Istanbul for an overall thumping 6-1 aggregate triumph that saw them secure promotion to League A and relegate their opponents in the process.
Guler netted Turkey’s second goal of Sunday’s game at the Puskas Arena shortly before half-time, after which he put his finger to his lips in a ‘shushing’ gesture aimed at Hungary captain Szoboszlai.
The Liverpool midfielder responded after the match on social media, producing a comment on Instagram in response to a post from Hungarian outlet Nemzeti Sport that showed the shushing gesture that read simply ‘1088’ - which was quickly deciphered as being a likely reference to the number of minutes Guler has played for Real Madrid so far this season.
The feud has not stopped there either, with Guler now calling Szoboszlai a “joke” in a new response posted to his Instagram Stories on Monday afternoon.
“This guy is a joke,” Guler posted underneath a picture of the scoreline from Budapest and of him shushing Szoboszlai. “Isn’t six goals enough to shut you up?”
