Antony’s proposed move to Real Betis has received a new lease of life as a key update on the situation is provided.
Antony spent the latter half of last season out on loan at Betis, where he enjoyed a dramatic uptick in form.
Having fallen out of favour under Erik ten Hag, the winger also found it hard to break into Ruben Amorim’s plans and was consequently loaned out.
He netted nine goals and provided an additional five assists in 26 appearances, helping Betis to a sixth-placed La Liga finish and the Europa Conference League final, where they fell to a heavy defeat at the hands of Chelsea.
Betis are keen on having Antony back and the player has also made no secret of his desire to return. The problem is that Los Verdiblancos have demonstrated an unwillingess to meet United’s asking price.
Manuel Pellegrini’s said are believed to be keen on a loan deal with an option to buy. There have even been suggestions that they want United to cover a portion of Antony’s wages. However, the Red Devils are only interested in a permanent transfer and have refused to budge on their position.
Negotiations between the two clubs have been deadlocked for weeks now and Pellegrini recently put the spotlight on United, insisting that they will ultimately decide Antony’s fate.
Now, a positive update has emerged, breathing new life into Antony’s potential switch to Betis.
According to The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath, United and Betis held talks over Antony today and there is positivity that an agreement is now within reach.
McGrath wrote on X, “Manchester United in talks today over a deal with Real Betis for Antony to return to Spain this season.”
“Hope of an agreement for the 25yo Brazil forward.”
It’s still unclear whether United have softened their stance and agreed to a loan move or if Betis have opted to sanction a permanent deal.
