Antoine Griezmann (34) is set to extend his contract at Atlético de Madrid imminently, according to L’Equipe. The 34-year-old World Cup winner with France will put pen to paper this Monday over a one-year contract extension. Griezmann, Atlético Madrid’s record goalscorer with 197 goals, will be tied with Diego Simeone’s Colchoneros until 2027. The outlet understands that, after several weeks of reflection, Griezmann has opted to remain in Europe amid interest from Middle East outfits and MLS franchises.

L’Equipe adds that Griezmann wants to use the momentum of his convincing season with Atlético Madrid – 16 goals and nine assists in 53 games played – to help the Colchoneros win a major trophy. Atlético Madrid finished third in La Liga standings and pushed Barcelona and Real Madrid in a title charge that eventually wilted in the final months of the campaign. Diego Simeone can still bring silverware this season at the Metropolitano, given the Colchoneros will feature in the revamped Club World Cup. The La Liga side will face Champions League winners PSG, Seattle Sounders and Botafogo in the group stage.
