Atlético Madrid star Antoine Griezmann admitted that he and his teammates need to take a long hard ‘look at ourselves’, on the back of the club’s exit from the Club World Cup.

Atlético were of course back in action on Monday night, locking horns with Brazilian outfit Botafogo in their third and final group stage fixture in the USA.

When all was said and done, Diego Simeone’s troops emerged on the right side of a 1-0 result, owing to a solitary strike on the part of the aforementioned Griezmann.

As much, however, did not prove enough to keep Atlético’s Club World Cup adventure alive.

Despite winning their last two games, a 4-0 opening day drubbing at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain was decisive in sending the Rojiblancos packing from the tournament.

And as alluded to above, one individual of the opinion that the capital heavyweights only have themselves to blame for as much is frontman Griezmann.

Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle at the Rose Bowl late on Monday, the Frenchman admitted:

“We have to look at ourselves and see that sometimes we’re not at the level we need to be, and we have to fix that.”
