Atlético Madrid star Antoine Griezmann late on Monday secured for himself an altogether prestigious individual accolade.

The prize in question comes in the form of the UNFP Best French Player Abroad.

Frontman Griezmann, for his part, was recently named on a five-man shortlist for an award which aims to recognise the efforts of the standout French players plying their club trade outside of the country.

The title had been dominated by Real Madrid star Karim Benzema for some time now, but, with the veteran hitman having departed for the riches of Saudi Arabia last summer, a spot at the top opened up.

Nominated for the trophy this time round were all of Griezmann, Arsenal stalwart William Saliba, AC Milan shot-stopper Mike Maignan, and Real Madrid midfield pair Eduardo Camavinga, and Aurélien Tchouaméni.

In the end, though, there could be only one winner, with Atlético’s star man, late on Monday, having been unveiled as precisely that.

Griezmann was handed his prize at the Wanda Metropolitano, his home stadium, footage of which can be seen below:
