Anthony Gordon could be set to not only cost Newcastle a place in the FA Cup quarter-final, but also miss the EFL Cup final after being sent off late on against Brighton.
The winger saw red for a foolish push on the face of Jan Paul van Hecke, which was deemed forceful and aggressive enough to warrant a straight dismissal.
The whistle had gone and play had stopped, making it all the more needless from the Newcastle man.
With just one game between now and the final, it is unlikely Gordon's suspension will be reduced from the standard three games to one, which is a nightmare scenario for both Eddie Howe and the Scouser ahead of the clash with Liverpool.
