Anthony Barry set to leave Chelsea for Bayern Munich | OneFootball

Chelsea and Bayern Munich have found a compensation agreement that will see first-team coach Anthony Barry swap allegiances to reunite with Thomas Tuchel.

As reported by The Times, Barry will join the German’s backroom staff at the Allianz Arena after the former Blues manager convinced the Bavarians chiefs to pursue his signature.

Impressed by Barry’s work ethic during their time in London, Tuchel made reuniting with the 36-year-old one of his top priorities after replacing Julian Nagelsmann in March.

Tuchel went public with his bid to lure the Englishman away from Stamford Bridge in his introductory press conference, which didn’t go down well with the Blues hierarchy.

Interestingly, interim boss Frank Lampard brought Barry to the club in 2020, entrusting him with taking care of set pieces and making him one of the most influential figures at the club.

Barry’s role at Chelsea went beyond just managing set pieces. His role encompassed general coaching and planning, making him an integral part of the team’s overall success under Lampard and Tuchel.

However, with the Premier League outfit unable to strike a compensation agreement with Bayern over his switch to Germany, the Englishman was asked to stay away down the final stretch of Graham Potter’s reign.

He has been unable to assist Lampard upon the 44-year-old’s temporary return to London, resulting in Chelsea losing all four competitive matches under the ex-Everton boss.

Barry’s imminent move to Bayern could facilitate the Blues’ effort to hire the German as their new chief of staff in the summer.

Since Tuchel replaced Nagelsmann last month, the latter has effectively been on gardening leave.

If Chelsea were to hire him, they would need to negotiate his release from Bayern.

But with the Barry crisis out of the picture, such discussions could avoid further complications.
