An insight into the plans of the powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona for the club’s frontline options next season has this weekend been provided.

The info comes courtesy of Mundo Deportivo, and surrounds the respective chances of Ansu Fati and João Félix taking their places in Xavi’s squad beyond the summer.

It is not out of the question that, when all is said and done, the Barcelona brass will essentially be left with a direct call between Ansu and Félix.

The former is in line to return to Catalunya’s capital following a season-long loan in England with Brighton & Hove Albion.

And frontman Félix could well find himself back on the Blaugrana’s books for a 2nd successive temporary stint, in the case of Atlético Madrid failing to find a permanent buyer.

With the likes of Lamine Yamal, Ferran Torres and Robert Lewandowski locked in for next season, and Deco and co. on the hunt for reinforcements on the left flank, though, there is only room for one between Ansu and Félix.

So, who is preferred as things stand?

As per the aforementioned MD, this has long been clear – Félix will be prioritised.

Barcelona’s coaching staff have not been sufficiently impressed by Ansu’s development with Brighton this season, with Félix, despite not exactly setting the world on fire in Blaugrana colours, having showcased more than a few flashes of his unquestionable brilliance.

In turn, it is the Portuguese who leads the race to rejoin Xavi’s ranks for the 2024/25 campaign.
