AC Milan have held an interest in Santiago Gimenez for months, and following his, and Mexico’s, elimination from Copa America, there is now a decision to be made about his future.

With the Joshua Zirkzee debacle set to be solved within the next 48 hours, or at least a decision will be made by then, this is where Milan must make decisions on other strikers.

To lay out the scene, by this time on Wednesday, the Rossoneri should know their plans for Zirkzee: they will either continue to pursue him, and likely pay an agent commission, given that is the stalling point, or they will move onto other targets.

Therefore, if by Wednesday, Milan know they will not go for Zirkzee, it is imagined they will go for Romelu Lukaku, Tammy Abraham (maybe both), or Santiago Gimenez, and a report from earlier today suggested the Mexican striker is the preference.

Following their elimination from the Copa America, ANSA (via Milan News) wrote that the Mexican had very little impact on the game, and the same can be said for his tournament in general, which could be a cause for concern for the Diavolo, given there were fears about his international form.

Alternatively, it could be seen as a positive. With nothing scheduled for the rest of the summer, there is an open road, and no distractions, so if the plan following the Zirkzee decision is to pursue Gimenez, they have to take their opportunity.
