Speaking after Roma’s late 1-1 draw against Genoa, defender Angeliño admitted his side’s drop-off in the second half cost them a win on Sunday.

The Giallorossi dominated proceedings in the opening 45 minutes, creating several goalscoring chances before Artem Dovbyk opened his account and scored his first goal for the club. Following the break, though, they were lifeless and ultimately paid the price in the final minutes when Koni De Winter leveled for the hosts, forcing Roma to settle for just a point.

“In the first half, we had more control of the game. We managed to solve the problems Genoa was trying to create for us,” explained the Spaniard.

“But in the second half, we lost possession much more frequently, and we lost the calm and balance we had in the first half. In the end, they put in a cross—one of the few chances where we failed to stop them—and it cost us three points.”

He continued, “Even without the shaky start to the season, there’s always going to be pressure because we’re Roma—we’re expected to fight for the top positions in the table.”

“Obviously it hurts us when we let the fans down and can’t repay their support and affection—right now, we’re not succeeding in doing that.”

“However, we need to turn things around as quickly as possible and achieve our goals.”
