Ángel Di María is set for an emotional return to Argentina, rejoining his first club Rosario Central.

The 37-year-old, who called time on his international career last year, started out at Rosario Central in 2005 before heading to Europe with Benfica in 2007.

Over the years, he’s racked up over 700 appearances across Europe, turning out for Benfica, Real Madrid, Manchester United, PSG, and Juventus.

He was close to returning to Rosario last summer, but rising drug violence in the area – along with threats made against him and his family – saw the move fall through.

After rejoining Benfica in 2023 for a second spell, the World Cup winner will now leave the club following their Club World Cup campaign in the U.S. next month to complete his long-awaited homecoming.
