Ange Postecoglou won trophies for fun during his two years as Celtic manager. During that period of time, he barely put a foot wrong. It would be safe to say that things are not going as smoothly for him at Tottenham Hotspur. It is remarkable that the club have not shown him the exit door yet and it is very possible that the Australian will be sacked in the summer unless something unexpected happens between now and then.
As things stand, Tottenham Hotspur are in the bottom half of the Premier League table. And that is where they will likely finish the campaign.
Postecoglou deserves a fair assessment of the situation though. Tottenham Hotspur have had to deal with injury problems throughout the season and almost every manager in world football would have struggled in these circumstances.
There are other areas in need of improvement as well though. Could Tottenham Hotspur do with someone like Daizen Maeda, who Postecoglou was instrumental in bringing to Celtic?
As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Ross McCormack told Open Goal regarding Maeda:
"I think, yes, there will be big offers.“Will they take it? I am not sure they can.“There must be a reason. Spurs were crying out for a striker. Ange has worked with him. Ange has seen him for years and years, when he was over in Japan, when he was classed as, even back then, an even better striker than Kyogo.“There must be a reason why these big teams haven’t already come for him."
Maeda has taken his game up a few levels this season. During Postecoglou's run as manager of Celtic, he had always played on the wing.
While Maeda did score a decent amount of goals, he was not known for that. Instead, his primary job was to bring his nonstop energy to the table and help Celtic press from the front.
Maeda has added more goals and assists to his game this season under the management of Brendan Rodgers this season. He has even been deployed at striker on a few occasions and thrived in that role.
On the back of Maeda's recent form, it would not come as a surprise if big clubs come calling in the summer. Will he remain a Celtic player beyond this season? Time shall tell.
