Tottenham Hotspur failed to win against Rangers at Ibrox, but manager Ange Postecoglou was impressed with one particular player.
Spurs were expected to win against Rangers at Ibrox in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
However, Tottenham had to settle for a 1-1 draw in the league stage game in Glasgow.
Rangers took the lead through Hamza Igamane in the 47th minute. Dejan Kulusevski, who replaced Timo Werner at half-time, scored the equaliser in the 75th minute.
It was not one of Tottenham’s best performances this season, but Postecoglou praised Lucas Bergvall.
The former Celtic manager revealed that Bergvall did not feel well before the game, but he still shone against Rangers.
The midfielder replaced Yves Bissouma in the 61st minute. Bergvall produced a tidy display and looked very comfortable at Ibrox.
Postecoglou told football.london: “I thought Lucas was excellent when he came on as well.
“He was due to start tonight but wasn’t feeling well today. He was a bit under the weather today.
“We had to keep him on the bench, but that’s a massive positive for us.”
Tottenham agreed an £8.5 million deal with Djurgarden for Bergvall in February 2024, with the midfielder officially moving to Spurs last summer.
The Swedish international midfielder has made 16 appearances for Spurs this season. He has provided two assists in those games.
The 18-year-old midfielder is developing as a footballer and is not yet the finished article.
However, making a positive impact in big games will boost Bergvall’s confidence and enable him to enhance his game.
