Speaking in an interview with L’Équipe, former Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho spoke about a young PSG side’s capacity to manage an away leg at Anfield, just before Les Parisiens fell to a 1-0 defeat at the Parc des Princes last night. If Luis Enrique’s side are to progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, they will have to overcome the 1-0 aggregate away at what should be a roaring Anfield next week. “Anfield is not a game. It’s special, it’s like a gladiatorial arena. You have a Liverpool team there who, when they enter the field, are the equivalent of Popeye opening his can of spinach (laughter), said the current FC Torpedo Kutaisi defender, who played for Liverpool between 2013 and 2017. “90 minutes there is something to remember. Whatever the scenario on the way back, Parisians will remember it. They will realise how special this stadium is,” finished Sakho on Anfield. The former PSG man did however believe that the Rouge et Bleu have the right characters in the squad to deal with the potential pressure. “There are players like Marquinhos and Dembélé who have the ability to handle this type of match and this type of atmosphere and to look after the less experienced players.”GFFN | George Boxall
