Sheffield United defender Anel Ahmedhodzic is stepping back from the Bosnia national team due to inadequate medical care, misinformation and personal attacks on his family, N1 reports.

In a chilling interview with the Bosnian media company, Ahmedhodzic explained his difficult decision. He stated that the medical care and personal attacks aren’t only the reason for stepping down from the national team. “I didn’t want this to be public, nor do I think it should be public, but we’ve reached a point where things can no longer be ignored, but this is the last time I’m going to publicise this in this way. The only thing anyone wants from their father as a son is support and pride. Unfortunately, I got very little of that.

“What I got most of the time was manipulation, lies, scams and almost daily bullying. This is the type of man who shows his “power” over women, but has never had the guts to stand up to another man. I have a very good relationship with my mother, I support her financially, so when he says that I don’t care about my parents, it’s a complete lie. That’s not a man. He goes after people I care about every time there’s a problem. I don’t want to get into stuff that happened when I was younger, but if you believe his interview, maybe you should also do an interview with my mother to see what she has to say about him.

“My father has also stated several times that I want to leave Sheffield United and that I don’t want to be here, which has spoiled my reputation in England, and such statements are completely untrue. This is the city and the club that gave me the best memories of my life, including the birth of my son.

“I will do everything I can to protect my family and the people I love from evil people like him.”

The 25-year-old has since returned to Sheffield and he is set to undergo light training today, from there the Blades’ coaching staff will discuss whether or not he can progress to full training and if he will be ready to play on Friday evening against Hull City.

Ahmedhodzic has began the Championship season in fine form, keeping two clean sheets in three starts. He appears to be back to his best: he has been driving up the field to beat the opposition press, and he’s shown his excellent sweeping abilities, particularly against Watford, when he sprinted back to deny Vakoun Bayo a one-on-one chance with Michael Cooper with an excellent tackle. The Blades will be hoping to get him back for the Friday night trip.
