Carlo Ancelotti is happy that his Real Madrid side don’t have a ‘clear identity’ and admits he will ‘sleep well’ before tomorrow’s Champions League semifinal second leg against Bayern Munich.

Ancelotti spoke at a press conference and released an interview with Sky Sport Italia on Tuesday on the eve of a Champions League semifinal second leg against Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich at the Estadio Bernabeu in Madrid.

“I am satisfied with the job and the commitment shown by the footballers despite the many difficulties,” the Italian tactician told Sky.

“I appreciate that, regardless of the quality of all my footballers, we work well as a team. They sacrifice and are all focused. This is surely something I appreciate.”

How has he prepared for the match? What are his feelings today?

“It’s one of the best days of the season,” he replied.

“We are close to another Final. I am happy because I see the team well. I’ll sleep well, but tomorrow is a different day.”

Sky Sport asked Ancelotti to explain his philosophy as a coach.

“I adapt. The fact that my teams don’t have a clear identity is a merit, not a fault,” he said.

“If a team doesn’t have a clear identity, it’s not a limit, it’s a quality.”

So, what does he need from his stars Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo?

“When they have the ball at their feet, there is nothing I can tell them because they are the best,” the Italian tactician replied.

“Collective mobility is very important. What I want from them is to work and sacrifice when we don’t have the ball.”

Spanish reporters also asked Ancelotti about his coaching philosophy during his pre-match press conference.

“I adapt to the characteristics of my players; I don’t want a team with a clear identity,” he replied, as quoted by Marca.

Ancelotti’s Real Madrid won the La Liga title last week which means Ancelotti has won 28 trophies in his coaching career, including four Champions League, more than any other tactician, and domestic trophies in Italy, Spain, France and Germany.

Ancelotti has recently extended his contract with Real Madrid until June 2026.
