An Egyptian international could greatly boost Manchester City’s attack

A report emerged late last night from Jack Gaughan for the Daily Mail that reported that Ederson and Omar Marmoush are reportedly targets for Manchester City in the January transfer window. Both players would be fine additions to Pep Guardiola’s squad. But in the case of Egyptian international Marmoush, he would add something that is lacking from City’s attacking play. Manchester City need a consistent goal threat outside of Erling Haaland and Marmoush would bring exactly that to the Etihad if City could sign him this month.

Omar Marmoush has starred for Eintracht Frankfurt this season. In 24 appearances in all competitions, he has scored 18 goals and added 12 assists. That is an outstanding return from the Egyptian international. But the way he plays would complement what Manchester City already have in their squad. That’s what makes him a tantalising proposition for Pep Guardiola’s side.

The finishing ability of Omar Marmoush stands out. As seen in the video above he is clinical in front of goal. Outside of Erling Haaland Pep Guardiola’s side does lack another quality finisher. After selling Julian Alvarez last summer, City has suffered with the loss of another quality finisher. Signing Omar Marmoush would address this issue. But there is plenty more to the game of the Egyptian international besides his goal-scoring.

The pace of Marmoush stands out. His ability to use his speed and acceleration to drive at defenders is a key component of his game. This, coupled with his technical ability, makes him a constant threat to defenders. Marmoush also has an eye for a pass and the thought of pairing him with Erling Haaland is an exciting proposition to ponder. His game seems to complement Haaland’s so that is a combination that could help City unlock their opponents defence. The Egyptian international is also a weapon in Eintracht Frankfurt’s defensive press. That is an area which City have struggled this season so if they did sign him they’d be adding that attribute of Marmoush’s to their squad.

As Jack Gaughan reports signing Omar Marmoush may be no easy feat for Manchester City. Eintracht Frankfurt are flying this season and Marmoush is a key part of this. But as a player he ticks the boxes for what Manchester City require. Now we wait to see if City do move for the Egyptian international this month. But there is a strong case for City to do so and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see move for Omar Marmoush.
