Arsenal are closing in on a fourth successive win against Manchester United in all competitions.
Despite their star-studded frontline, it’s two defenders who’ve inflicted damage on Ruben Amorim and his men at the Emirates this evening.
It’s a renowned fact that the Gunners are at their most threatening from set-pieces; no side in the Premier League have scored than them (seven) this season so far. Tonight, Jurrien Timber and William Saliba were able to find the back of the net in the rare moments they ventured up the pitch with hopes of latching onto a corner kick.
The second time around, it was Marcus Rashford, who had only entered the fray around the 60th-minute mark, that conceded the corner in ludicrous fashion. Under intense pressure from Martin Odegaard, he seemingly attempted to flick the ball up and over the Arsenal skipper before watching the ball dwindle out of play.

A right-sided in-swinger from Bukayo Saka bundled into the net off of Saliba’s backside to extend the hosts’ lead to 2-0 and, given the lack of firepower United had already displayed up to that stage, their chances of claiming anything from the night diminished quickly.
Alas, it’s no surprise that Amorim was enraged with how the build-up to Saliba’s contribution played out.
“What was Rashford doing by conceding that daft corner?” Journalist Samuel Luckhurst questioned on X/Twitter. “Amorim looked furious at that.”
It marks Amorim’s first taste of defeat since succeeding Erik ten Hag and United’s fifth in the league so far, leaving them 11th-placed after matchweek 14. They sit seven points adrift of Manchester City in fourth ahead of their trip to the Etihad next Sunday for the first Manchester derby instalment of the campaign.
Pep Guardiola’s side, on the other hand, have just claimed their first win after an unprecedented seven-game winless streak, having overturned Nottingham Forest 3-0.
