Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has suggested that the club will not pursue a move for Viktor Gyökeres this summer.

The pair worked together at Sporting CP and he enjoyed great success under Amorim, with the Swede currently sitting on 38 league goals for the current campaign.

His deal in Lisbon reportedly includes an £85m release clause (although there are suggestions Sporting would be willing to discuss a transfer in the region of £60m) and United had been linked with a move for his services.

However, it is also claimed that Gyökeres himself is only willing to consider joining a club who will play in the Champions League next season - something which could scupper a potential move even if United make it in by winning the Europa League.

"I haven't spoken to Gyökeres but if a player only wants to come to Man United to play in the Champions League then he won't come," Amorim told TV Sport Portugal ahead of his side's clash with Athletic Club.

"We want players who want to represent United. We don't want players who only want to play in certain competitions.

"Of course we want to be in the Champions League. It could change a lot of things at the club this summer. It won't save our season but winning a trophy can be huge."

Man Utd are in Bilbao on Thursday night and will hope to return later this month to the city for the Europa League final should they overcome Athletic Club.
