With speculation growing that Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso could depart the club in summer, questions in his press conference for the Freiburg game started as you might expect.

“I have nothing to say,” Alonso exclaimed, regarding his future before stating that he, Simon Rolfes and Fernando Carro enjoy “clarity” at all times between eachother.

Unbothered by murmurings of the club already conducting a search for his replacement, Alonso motored on with his presser by giving an update on squad fitness for the trip to Breisgau.

""All players [who aren't out long term] are good [for Sunday's game] with the exception of [Victor] Boniface. After training yesterday he felt something in his thigh muscles. He didn't train today. We'll see tomorrow, but [he's the only one in] doubt," he said.

The Spaniard went on to discuss Jonas Hofmann's apparent frustration at his lack of playing time for Die Werkself in recent months.

"Of course it's a topic. I try to make every player understand his situation. Not everyone can always play. Of course he could've played more, I know that, but I need to decide what I need and what's best for the team, also with Emi [Buendía].

"But yes, I can understand that Jonas feels that way, it was a little more difficult for him [this season], that's very clear," Alonso added.
