Who are the most important Newcastle United players?
With the 2025/26 season just over three weeks away, how does this Newcastle United squad look?
What is the picking order amongst these Newcastle United players?
Interested in hearing your thoughts in the comments section at the bottom.
I have gone through this list of 30 Newcastle United players.
In terms of how essential they are to this massive 2025/26 season that lies ahead.
As well as listing them from 1 to 30, I have also divided the Newcastle United players into four categories.
The first category of nine players are for me, the ones that we can absolutely not afford to lose.
The second category has eleven players who are basically what I see as the others who would make it up to the current first eleven and nine subs.
Third category has another three Newcastle United players making up the very fringes of the squad.
The fourth category has the remaining seven players who I don’t see as playing any part next season.
All of the current Newcastle United players in order of importance, as we prepare for the 2025/26 season:
CATEGORY 1
Alexander Isak
Sandro Tonali
Bruno Guimaraes
Anthony Gordon
Anthony Elanga
Joelinton
Lewis Hall
Tino Livramento
Sven Botman
CATEGORY 2

Joe Willock

Conclusions
I have two main conclusions.
Firstly, Eddie Howe has some excellent players in that very top grouping, but needs to add at least a couple more this summer.
Secondly, I think ideally we need at least another four signings in total (including those two I have mentioned for the vert top grouping), so that the quality of the squad rises significantly higher. Effectively, pushing down those I see in positions 17 to 20 (Lewis Miley to Jamaal Lascelles) so that they go into positions 21 to 24 in terms of how essential they are to next season. That group of four includes both Will Osula and Lewis Miley, who I see as having great potential in the future, but as things stand for purely next season, this is where I place them.
Hopefully I can revisit this after Monday 1 September 2025 when the summer transfer window closes, including four or more further quality signings AND for sure having lost nobody from that very top category of nine current Newcastle United players.
