It may have been Harvey Elliott who got the winning goal to give Liverpool an advantage (1-0) to protect heading back to Anfield, but it is Alisson who the Merseyside club will be thanking for their slender win over Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes.
The Brazilian goalkeeper made nine saves on the night in what was a bombardment on the Liverpool goal, particularly in the first half. That included denying Ousmane Dembélé, the most in-form goalscorer in Europe in 2025, in a one-on-one situation and pulling out a strong reflex save to parry Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s deflected effort from inside the box.
The shots kept coming in the second half, albeit from further out with Kvaratskhelia and Désiré Doué both forcing spectacular saves from Alisson, whose performance saw him nominated man of the match. Speaking post-match, he was asked whether his performance against PSG was his best of the season, to which he responded, “[It was] probably the best [performance] of my life I think, so far.”
“I have no words. This guy is unbelievable – the best in the world. Each and every game he shows it and keeps us in games. Tonight, it was my opportunity to repay this man,” Elliott told TNT Sports in reference to Alisson’s game-defining display.
