Alisson Becker has departed Liverpool’s pre-season tour of Asia due to a personal matter.
Liverpool confirmed that Alisson was granted permission to return home and is expected to rejoin the squad once they return to the UK.
The 32-year-old played in the recent 4-2 defeat to AC Milan in Hong Kong and had featured prominently during the early part of pre-season.
His departure leaves Arne Slot with several options in goal for the final match of the Asia tour.
New signing Giorgi Mamardashvili is expected to start in Alisson’s absence.
Freddie Woodman, another summer arrival, is also in contention, along with young goalkeepers Armin Pecsi and Kornel Misciur.
Liverpool’s final game on the tour takes place at the Nissan Stadium, before the squad flies back to England ahead of a home double-header against Athletic Club on August 4.
Alisson is the third player to leave the camp early.
Joe Gomez returned to Merseyside last week after suffering a minor Achilles injury and is undergoing assessment at the AXA Training Centre.
Winger Luis Diaz also left the group, having travelled to Germany to finalise his transfer to Bayern Munich.
The Colombian international is set to complete a move worth up to £66 million, including add-ons.
While Alisson’s departure is unrelated to any transfer activity, his name had been mentioned earlier in the summer as a potential target for clubs in Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
However, there has been no suggestion from Liverpool that the goalkeeper’s exit from the tour is linked to any transfer negotiations.
Claudio Taffarel, Alisson’s close friend and former goalkeeping coach, previously stated that the Liverpool No.1 remains committed to the club.
He is expected to continue as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper heading into the new season.
Mamardashvili’s arrival from Valencia is viewed as a long-term investment, with Alisson still seen as a crucial figure in the squad.
Liverpool’s preparations for the new campaign will wrap up in early August, ahead of their Community Shield clash with Crystal Palace at Wembley.
Alisson is expected to be available by then and rejoin training once the squad returns from Japan.
