Reputable Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà insists that Lorenzo Insigne is hellbent on signing for Lazio, even if it means waiting for several months to set foot on the pitch.

Lorenzo Insigne Back in Italy

The 34-year-old spent the bulk of his playing career at his hometown club of Napoli, before joining Toronto FC in the summer of 2022. After three underwhelming seasons in Canada, the winger left the MLS club and returned to Italy, but he remains unattached.

Insigne Eager to Join Maurizio Sarri at Lazio

As Pedullà previously revealed in an exclusive for The Laziali, Insigne is keen to sign for Lazio, but the move has been impeded by the transfer ban imposed by COVISOC, which is preventing the club from making any signings this summer.

Nevertheless, Pedullà believes that the delay has done little to tame the player’s desire to reunite with Maurizio Sarri. As the journalist explained in his appearance on The Italian Football Podcast, Insigne believes that working with the 66-year-old tactician would help him catch a second wave in his fading career.

If it were up to Lorenzo Insigne, he would have already signed for Lazio. He wants to work again with Maurizio Sarri at all costs because they have a fantastic relationship going back to their time together at Napoli. I’ll tell you something crazy. In my opinion, he would be ready to sign a contract now even it has to wait for the registration in January, not even in October. That’s because he thinks Sarri is the right coach to help him relaunch his career.  We will see, he has had other offers but he hasn’t accepted them because he wants to wait for Lazio. We will see on the 31st of August if he accepts other offers or if he continues to wait for Lazio.

Will Lazio Invest in January Transfer Window?

Lazio will be hoping to lift the transfer ban in the coming months, and Pedullà believes they would be willing to bolster their ranks in January if they deem it necessary to challenge for a Champions League spot.

We will see, a lot also depends on the first 3-4 matches of the season and where they’ll be by December. If they are in 6th or 7th spot and not too far from the the Top-four zone, they could try to sign players. However, it is not an easy situation.
