Alexander Isak reveals key motivation behind Liverpool transfer | OneFootball

Alexander Isak says he wants to “create history” and win trophies with Liverpool following his record-breaking transfer from Newcastle United.

The Reds signed the striker on Deadline Day for an initial £125 million plus £5m in potential add-ons, making him the most expensive signing in British football history.

Isak‘s move to Anfield was the culmination of one of the biggest transfer sagas in Premier League history. He refused to play for the Magpies, missing their pre-season tour of Asia and their opening three matches of the season, and publically slammed the club over “broken promises”.

In his first interview after the transfer was announced, the Sweden international said it felt “amazing” to be a Liverpool player after a “long journey to get here”. But he also admitted that he has “mixed emotions” following the move.

“Some relief but a lot of pride, happiness,” he told the club’s official website. “I’m just happy it’s done and that I can get back to work. I’m looking forward to seeing my teammates and the fans, and getting back out there.”

Asked why he wanted to join Liverpool, Isak responded: “I think it’s a mixture of what the club is building, but what they’re building on top of what the club already is.

“The history of the club. Me getting the chance to be a part of this, I want to create history. I want to win trophies.

“That’s ultimately the biggest motivation for me and I feel like this is the perfect place for me to grow even further and to take my game to the next level and help the team as well.”

Isak added: “I feel like this is the next step for me in my career. I’m super-happy that I’ve been given this chance and I’m very motivated to do something well with it.”
