Chelsea are reportedly on the brink of completing a deal to sign Manchester United forward, the reliable Fabrizio Romano has confirmed.
Garnacho is set to leave United before the close of the transfer window, after the player’s relationship with Ruben Amorim irreparably broke down towards the end of last season.
Angered by Amorim’s decision to name him on the bench for the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, Garnacho slammed the head coach’s tactical management of the contest, while also questioning his future at Old Trafford. This act did not go down well with Amorim and the Portuguese responded by instructing Garnacho to find a new team.
Garnacho was left out of United’s pre-season preparations and was also excluded from the matchday squad that was beaten 1-0 by Arsenal over the weekend.
The Argentina international has consistently maintained that Chelsea are his preferred transfer destination, despite interest from other parties including Al-Nassr, Bayer Leverkusen, Atletico Madrid, Aston Villa and Bayern Munich.
Chelsea are also believed to be keen on adding him to their ranks and have already held talks with United over a transfer. But, the Blues have yet to lodge an official bid and are thought to be waiting until the final weeks of the transfer window in an effort to push United into sanctioning a cut-price exit.
A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United are determined not to let Garnacho leave on the cheap.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has issued a huge update on the situation, revealing that Chelsea are getting closer to striking a deal with United.
Romano wrote on X, “Chelsea are advancing in club to club talks for Alejandro Garnacho! Deal underway with Man United.”
“Excellent relationship between United CEO Berrada and Chelsea hierarchy.”
“Garnacho only wants Chelsea and turned down an approach from Bayern in last 48h; no chance.”
According to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, Garnacho has privately confided to his friends that he will become a Chelsea player very soon.
Crook further notes, “Chelsea officials have instructed Garnacho to be patient and bide his time before they sign him and club-to-club talks are expected to accelerate in the coming days.”
“United have been quoting potential suitors a transfer fee in the region of £50million for their academy graduate.”
Chelsea are confident that they can drive this price down due to Garnacho’s “toxic relationship” with Amorim.
