Laia Aleixandri says reaching the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stages is where ‘Manchester City belong.’
City will host Paris FC in the second leg of our UWCL round two qualifier at the Joie Stadium on Thursday holding a commanding 5-0 advantage following last week’s first encounter in the French capital.
It means Gareth Taylor’s side are very much in the driving seat in terms of securing a result that would guarantee qualification through to the group stages.
If City can secure passage through it would be the first time the Club had reached that stage since the 2020/21 season.
And addressing the media at Wednesday’s pre-match press conference, Aleixandri said reaching the group stages was a stage befitting a club of City's aspirations.
“It’s where we belong and where we want to be,” the Spanish international declared at Wednesday’s pre-match press conference.
“It was the main objective last season.
“Tomorrow is going to be an important match for us because we need to show personality.
“We need to show the team that we want to be and that we are in the right way to be this team.
“Looking forward to this season for sure.”
City have made a positive start to the season securing a 2-2 draw at Arsenal in last weekend's Women's Super League opener.
And asked about what her personal goals are looking ahead to the season, Aleixandri was unequivocal in her response.
“For me success is always winning trophies,” she declared.
“This club is in the right time to start winning again.
“One of the goals is to win trophies.
“I don’t know which one because we are going to be fighting for every trophy.
“We are trying to win every weekend. And win a trophy.”
