Manchester United are running out of time to win the red-hot race for Victor Osimhen as Al-Hilal have now tabled a €70 million offer for the 26-year-old striker.
Fabrizio Romano reveals the Saudi Pro League have submitted an “official bid to Napoli” for Osimhen worth a fixed fee of €65 million with €5 million in add-ons.
Tweet: “EXCL: Al Hilal submit official bid to Napoli for Victor Osimhen as top target. Proposal worth €65m fixed fee plus €5m add-ons, decision up to Napoli now. This follows story revealed yesterday on Al Hilal in contact with Osimhen over salary/personal terms.”
Al-Hilal had identified Osimhen as their “top target” ahead of the Club World Cup commencing on June 14 with Napoli open to the Nigerian international’s sale when he returns from Galatasaray, where he spent the season on loan.
Osimhen proved a revelation in Istanbul, propelling his adopted side to a league and cup double with an impressive 37 goals and eight assists in just 41 games for the Lions. He was always expected to return to Naples at the conclusion of his loan, however, with the striker considering a range of options for a permanent departure from the Diego Armanda Maradona Stadium.
His contract with Napoli contains a release clause – thought to be worth €75 million – which is active this summer. And it’s this favourable price which put a number of clubs across the continent on red-alert, including the Red Devils.
But Osimhen’s wages are believed to have deterred potential suitors in Europe, opening the door for a blockbuster raid from the Middle East with Saudi Arabian clubs more than happy to meet these financial demands.
Al-Hilal executives presented a formal offer to Osimhen’s representatives this week, worth around £25 million a year with further bonuses on top.
Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio notes Osimhen has not accepted this offer, however, suggesting reticence to follow through on a move to Saudi Arabia, even for astronomical sums.
Napoli have now received an official bid from Al-Hilal, though it appears to have fallen short of triggering the striker’s release clause, as Romano reveals the “decision [is] up to Napoli now” which it would not be if the clause had been met.
Di Marzio further reveals the Italian club have rejected the proposal, though negotiations will continue and Al-Hilal are prepared to meet the €75 million threshold if necessary.
This slither of doubt over a deal presents United with a window of opportunity to strike by matching the release clause and bypassing the Italian club in negotiations with Osimhen.
If United submit an offer worth €75 million (£63m) they can enter talks directly with the red-hot hitman and convince him that his future should lie in Manchester, not the Middle East. But they must act now to do so, before it is too late.
