There’s bad news for Ajax as Branco van den Boomen has been ruled out of action ‘for the time being’. The 28-year-old midfielder has undergone knee surgery and is currently working on his recovery. The Dutchman has missed his side’s last two matches and now he’s expected to be out of action until 2024.

Branco van den Boomen joined Ajax from Toulouse during the summer on a free transfer. The Dutchman has featured 15 times, scoring twice and providing one assist. Ajax have endured their worst ever start to an Eredivisie campaign, but Branco has certainly been one of the better players in the squad. Now, head coach John Van ‘t Schip will have to work without the former Eindhoven and Willem II midfielder.

Ajax have some crucial games coming up before the turn of the year. Europa League matches with Marseille and Sevilla are on the calendar as well as league games with NEC Nijmegen, Waalwijk, Sparta Rotterdam and Zwolle. This weekend they take on Vitesse at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

Former Derby County and PSV boss Phillip Cocu has just stepped down from his role as Vitesse manager with the club currently rock bottom of the table. They’ve picked up just eight points from their opening twelve matches, therefore, Ajax are expected to claim all three on Saturday.
