Ajax emerged victorious in De Klassieker with a dominant 2-0 win over Feyenoord at De Kuip. The Amsterdam club have officially won all of their Eredivisie games in October, while the hosts saw an impressive 29-game league unbeaten run come to an end. Wednesday night’s Klassieker turned out to be an entertaining spectacle. Feyenoord entered as slight favourites, having found form under Brian Priske with notable wins over Benfica, Utrecht, and Go Ahead Eagles.
Francesco Farioli had been heavily questioned for his numerous lineup changes each game, but his picks paid off in De Klassieker. Just seven minutes into the game Ajax capitalised. A horror show at the back from Feyenoord allowed Kenneth Taylor to tap the ball into an empty net, and instantly Ajax had all the momentum.
Ajax dominated for the majority of the first 45, and they doubled their lead on 25 minutes through Rotterdam-born Jorrel Hato. Another disaster in defence allowed the 19-year-old to poke the ball into the back of the net following a corner kick. Brian Priske responded to his side’s dreadful start by replacing Ayase Ueda on 40 minutes. Julián Carranza Came on and made little impact.
There were chances for both sides in the second half, but Ajax maintained control and looked the stronger of the two sides throughout. a deserved win overall for Francesco Farioli, in the Italian’s first Klassieker. Brian Priske will have to forget Wednesday’s defeat as quickly as possible, with AZ alkmaar entering De Kuip on Saturday.
Ajax are up to second in the Eredivisie table after claiming three crucial points. There’s still eight points between them and PSV, but they have a huge chance to change that on Saturday. Peter Bosz’s PSV are Ajax’s next opponents, a huge chance for the gap to be closed ever so slightly. After a statement win in De Klassieker, who knows what Francesco Farioli’s side will conjure up against last season’s champions.
