Chelsea are surging into this summer with some really good business wrapped up early.
Today the signing of Mamadou Sarr, made back in January, was confirmed.
He joins Estevao Willian, Dario Essugo and Kendry Paez as players who had signed before this window even opened.
So far there has also been one player added fresh this summer – Liam Delap from Ipswich. The striker was announced last week, and will be ready to play at the Club World Cup starting a week today.
They spoke about him on the Rest is Football podcast, and as you’d expect they turned to English living striker God Alan Shearer for his take.
Liam Delap signs for Chelsea
“For £30m, it’s a no brainer. I think Chelsea have got a great deal. I gather there were other big clubs for him so for Chelsea to get him at that price, it’s very good business,” the Premier League record scorer said.
“I think he’s a bit old fashioned. He’s like a throwback to what a centre forward was maybe 20 or 30 years ago where they were all in fashion. He’s aggressive, horrible to play against, he doesn’t mind mixing it up, he can run in behind and he obviously scores goals.”
We’ve pointed out already that Delap did well with the team with the lowest possession in the league, and can presumably do even better now:
“The number of goals he scored in a really struggling team, that is only going to get better and I think at his age, his ability he has got now, I think he has a really bright future and I like him.
“I would have liked to have seen Newcastle get him but for whatever reason he has decided to go to Chelsea and I think it’s a really smart move for him.”
