Former Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic has highlighted something that I believe is missing from current Chelsea under this ownership.
The news comes after Chelsea played out a boring 0-0 draw against Brentford in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon in what was another underwhelming performance.
Enzo Maresca frustrated Chelsea fans once again with a heavily rotated starting lineup in such an important game in the race for Champions League qualification, and then he annoyed them even more with some of the excuses he came out with after the game, even blaming the weather!
The Blues boss was also frustrated though, pointing out the fact that his attackers are currently not doing enough and has called for more goals from them all.
Maresca and his players must keep going now and onto the next game later this week in the Conference League as they look to try and win some silverware this season.
It’s great to hear from former players, and it’s not often that Matic comes out and speaks on Chelsea. The big midfielder also played for Manchester United of course, and has been speaking about those differences.
In an interview with The Athletic, Matic said:
“The difference I felt after Chelsea was that, at Chelsea, everything was about the result and winning trophies. That was the spirit in the whole club, even from the man who cuts the grass.
“Roman Abramovich would only ask us about results. At United, it was more commercial-minded. I started to think that after a couple of months in the club… I felt that the results were not the focus like it was at Chelsea.”
In my view, there just isn’t that winning mentality at current Chelsea across the board at the club on the whole, that is something seriously lacking, and Matic has just inadvertently highlighted that here.
