AC Milan fell to a humiliating defeat against Dinamo Zagreb last night, and Zvonimir Boban has torn into the side about their season so far.
If things weren’t bad before last night, they are now. In fact, you can be much, much harsher on the side, and you wouldn’t be overstepping a mark it has to be said. In a game where Milan had already done the hard work, they capitulated.
Entering Croatia, everything seemed settled about chances of a top-eight finish, but by half-time that was thrown out of the window. It is another game where the Rossoneri have looked heavily flawed, and they have taken a huge hit as a result.
Not only do the Diavolo now have to win in the play-off phase of the competition (which adds another two games to the calendar), but they also do not get the financial boost provided by a top-eight finish.
After the game, Boban ripped into the side for their season so far, and you cannot blame him. His words have been relayed by Milan Press.
“From AC Milan you never know what to expect, at least this season: when you least expected it they played a great game. Unfortunately, there is discontinuity, little balance, a team created not ideally to be sweet, you can see all these gaps.
“They have changed the coach, there are constant dramas: it is a troubled and inconsistent season. That said, tactically it wasn’t bad but it created little, always with the usual Fofana and Pulisic and with Leao intermittently. I liked it better in Zagreb than against Parma, where nothing was understood.
“Leao is an outside forward, he must play wide on the wing and not moved into the middle to lift Hernandez, who when he plays up front doesn’t understand anything.
“Theo has to start from the back to hurt the opponents. If you have a centre-forward who feels a match like this… Morata is non-existent: sorry for the boy, but when he plays up front he is impalpable.”
