Igor Tudor has emerged as a surprise contender for the Burnley job after leaving Lazio earlier this month.

The Clarets endured a miserable campaign last time out as they were relegated from the Premier League with a whimper.

Despite that, in a move that shocked world football, Bayern Munich named Vincent Kompany as their new head coach, leaving Burnley in a problematic position since his exit.

Igor Tudor is a Burnley target

The past few weeks have centred on finding a successor for the Belgian, and a host of names have been linked with the vacancy, including Liam Rosenior and Craig Bellamy.

Yet, it’s set to be a thorough process for the hierarchy at Turf Moor, and it appears they’re looking across Europe in a bid to identify the right manager.

That’s after Daily Mail reporter Tom Collomosse stated that Tudor is ‘hugely admired’ by Burnley, although it remains unclear whether he would be interested in the role.

Potential Igor Tudor appointment gets Burnley fan backing

The former Juventus player has had a pretty remarkable managerial career, which has seen him take charge of eight clubs following his appointment as Hadjuk Split head coach in 2013.

Since then, he has led the likes of Galatasaray, Marseille and Lazio, so he has managed some huge clubs.

However, Tudor’s success has been mixed, and his only trophy as a coach came with Hadjuk Split when they lifted the Croatian Cup.

Nevertheless, the level of clubs he has managed gives an indication of how well-regarded he is in the game, and fan pundit Ben told FLW that Tudor would be a popular choice among the supporters.

He said: “I don’t really know much about him. Obviously, if he’s admired by the club, then there’s something they like there. He did well at Marseille, but he hasn’t done great elsewhere at other clubs, but they’re all at a high level.

He’d be a top, top name, and it’s come out of nowhere really. I don’t really follow European football compared to the Championship, but I think the fans would back him. I would certainly be happy with him, and it would be an interesting one, something a bit different to the links we’re seeing. It would be an interesting one for sure.”

Igor Tudor could be the ideal choice for Burnley

There are obvious risks to appointing Tudor, as he has yet to manage in England, and he hasn’t exactly stuck around at a club for a long period in his career so far.

Yet, he is someone who is tactically astute, and he looks to play attacking football, which could make him an ideal fit for this talented Burnley squad.

His playing career, combined with some of the clubs he has coached, means he should instantly command respect from the Clarets’ group, and he will no doubt be eager to prove himself in England.

So, if this was possible, it’s something that Burnley should pursue. They took a risk with the Kompany appointment, and Tudor could be the ideal manager to build on the work the ex-Anderlecht chief did at Turf Moor.
