FLW's Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit has predicted that one of their players will reach the top flight.
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more...
Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has worked wonders at Hillsborough since his arrival in 2023, and his current squad sees a mix of experienced players battling with up-and-coming prospects for first-team spots.
The Owls were unbeaten in four games before their defeat at home against Blackburn Rovers last night, and they currently find themselves mid-table in the Championship ahead of a run of fixtures which they will see as an opportunity to potentially close the gap to the top six.
Wednesday will be hoping to pick up a few good results in the lead-up to January, ahead of what could prove to be a pivotal month for the club, with Rohl having previously stated that he would like to increase the level of his team by bringing in players from Premier League clubs once the transfer window opens.
However, when a side has improved as much as Sheffield Wednesday have since Rohl's arrival in October last year, there is always a risk that other clubs could be interested in certain players, so it will be interesting to see how things pan out at Hillsborough after the turn of the year.
With January fast approaching, we asked our Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit, Patrick McKenna, which player he feels has the highest price-tag and what fee he would demand if it was up to him.
"The player in our squad with the highest price-tag right now would be Di'Shon Bernard," said Patrick.
"There are several things going for him. He came through the Manchester United academy, he is young, and he has performed strongly this season in a team that has had its defensive problems.
"I think if you are the sort of player who stands out in a team that doesn't always have it easy, it does make you attractive to other clubs who see the potential there.
"It is quite obvious that Di'Shon Bernard can play at a higher level, and I don't doubt that Sheffield Wednesday is essentially a stepping stone in his career.
"I think he will quite comfortably play in the Premier League. He is a very solid defender, he is intelligent, he makes good interceptions, and he is comfortable on the ball.
"As for the price-tag, realistically, you're maybe talking about £3 million. However, I would like to think that, if we were selling him, we would get higher than that."
Since joining Sheffield Wednesday in the summer of 2023 following the expiration of his contract at Old Trafford, Bernard has racked up 50 Championship appearances for the Owls, and the defender has made the most blocks and clearances for the club in the second tier so far this season.
With Rohl no doubt hoping to bolster his squad in January rather than having it weakened, it seems unlikely that he would be keen on a departure for the 24-year-old Jamaica international any time soon, unless a significant offer comes in.
Championship clubs who do not receive parachute payments do sometimes have to consider cashing in on their best players in order to be sustainable, but for Bernard to depart midway through a season, the Owls would be looking for big money you would think in order to part ways with one of their top stars.
