Espanyol star Joan García has this evening spoken out on the insulting chants directed at he and his teammates during today’s meeting with Barcelona.
Espanyol of course made the trip to Montjuïc earlier today, for the season’s first edition of The Derbi Barceloní.
When all was said and done, Manolo González’s troops were, as expected, put to the sword, by an eventual scoreline of three goals to one.
The 90 minutes proved to be of a frustrating nature for the evening’s visitors, who saw a pair of goals disallowed by VAR for offside.
As alluded to above, though, the grievances of Espanyol’s players were not confined solely to matters on the pitch.
In addition, the Periquitos were the targets of a series of insulting chants on the part of the home crowd at Montjuïc, who made clear their hopes that, come the season’s close, their city neighbours will be relegated back to Spain’s 2nd tier.
Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle, the subject of these chants was, in turn, put to the aforementioned Joan García.
And the Espanyol shot-stopper, in quotes gathered by Mundo Deportivo, went on to admit that he was left ‘angered’ by Barcelona’s supporters:
“A lot of anger. Especially for those of us who have the perico sentiment, it is not pleasant to hear that. But everyone celebrates what they want, how they want.”
