Manchester City entered the FIFA Club World Cup with the goal of winning the competition. Outside of that aim, the competition does represent a pre-season of sorts for Pep Guardiola’s side. It is an opportunity for the City squad and staff to get away and build for next season. There is also the added benefit of Manchester City’s matches at the FIFA Club World Cup being an opportunity for Rodri and Oscar Bobb to get back to full fitness after injuries ruined their 24/25 season.
In the case of Oscar Bobb, his two appearances at the Club World Cup have been promising. He has displayed his well-known quality and talent in both matches against Wydad AC and Al Ain. Bobb looks ready to make up for lost time based on his showings in the United States.
In an interview published on mancity.com, Oscar Bobb believes the FIFA Club World Cup is a fresh start for himself and his team. The young Norwegian international explained: “I think [the Club World Cup and the new season] will be a fresh start for me and for the team I think from here on out. For me, it’s great to be back. I feel very good and happy to be here, excited and it’s great to be with the team.”
“It was tough at times, but the club offered great support, and I was always thinking of coming back stronger, so it was all good.”
“I came back around February and then got a bit overload and that kept me out for a few weeks.”
“But then after that I’ve been fine. Obviously, getting the fitness back takes some time, but now I feel great.”
“It’s a fresh start for me and the team from here I think we can just build.”
Oscar Bobb explained that the FIFA Club World Cup is a fresh start for him after his 24/25 season was wrecked by injury. In his two appearances at the competition, it has stood out that he is in touch and has lost none of his quality as a player. His touch and ability to play in the pockets have stood out. The zip is back in Bobb’s game and that is good news for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Against Wydad AC, Bobb showed that he is over the fractured leg he sustained last season. He got around the pitch well and he oozed class when in possession. But against Al Ain, he took a bigger step in his bid to make an impression in the United States. Oscar Bobb was more lively on the ball, and across the pitch, and playing on the right wing, he gave the Al Ain defence a torrid time. He drifted from the right wing and linked up Manchester City’s possession play well. The young Norwegian international got himself on the scoresheet with a quality finish, and the manner of his goal showed the intelligence that makes Oscar Bobb such a dangerous player.
Oscar Bobb has impressed so far at the FIFA Club World Cup. His two appearances have been full of promise and he looks set to make up for lost time. That’s good news for Manchester City and the hope is that Bobb can hit the 25/26 ready to fire.
