A Derby d'Italia like never before: the stats from the 4-4 draw at San Siro | OneFootball

It had never happened before in over 115 years of encounters. After 249 matches, a 4-4 draw between Inter and Juventus was truly exceptional. The San Siro clash delivered a statistical milestone, leaving Inter with the disappointment of not securing victory after leading 1-0 and then 4-2.

At least 8 goals in a match between Inter and Juventus had only been scored on two previous occasions: in 1932 (a 6-2 victory for Juventus) and in 1961 (a 9-1 win when Inter fielded their youth team). The 1932 match also recorded the most different scorers in a single game (7), while the San Siro showdown saw 6 different players find the net (Zielinski, Mkhitaryan, Dumfries, Vlahovic, Weah, Yildiz). Additionally, five goals were scored in the first half, setting another record for the Derby d'Italia.

ZIELINSKI, PENALTY-SPOT BRACE

Playing as a playmaker, Piotr Zielinski scored his first goals for Inter with two perfect penalties. The first was straight down the middle, while the second was a low, curled shot with his right foot. Ice-cold under pressure, these were only the second and third penalties he had ever taken in Serie A. Prior to this, he had scored just one penalty in his 368 league appearances, which was on 27 September 2023, while playing for Napoli against Udinese.

No player had ever scored a penalty double in a Derby d'Italia, adding to the uniqueness of this thrilling 4-4 draw. In the history of Inter-Juventus clashes, only one other Polish player had found the net: Zbigniew Boniek, who scored on 24 March 1985 while playing for Juventus.

Additionally, Denzel Dumfries became only the third Dutch player to score in Serie A matches between Inter and Juventus, following Clarence Seedorf (who netted three times between 2000 and 2002) and Faas Wilkes (who scored twice between 1949 and 1950), both playing for Inter.
