Manchester United are set to step into a new chapter with Ruben Amorim making his managerial debut against Ipswich Town today.
Ahead of the clash, Bruno Fernandes said Amorim knows that there are high expectations at Man United.
He said to Sky Sports: “Expectations are really high at this club every time and patience is something that doesn’t work in football.
“It’s still the beginning but obviously you can see already what he’s about, how much intensity he wants to put in every training session. But then him and his staff are really strict, but at the same time open.
“They came to one of the biggest clubs in the world, they know the expectation is going to be high, some people will doubt, others will think that he will do everything straight away and be brilliant, so he knows what people are expecting.
“Obviously not everyone starts, not everyone plays, but everyone’s going to be involved, and he wants everyone to feel the same attention and the same desire to win.”
The Red Devils have lacked discipline over the last decade and a ‘strict’ approach of the new coaching staff is much welcomed.
The current United squad is still incapable of fighting for the league title but it is far better than languishing in the 12th spot.
The team clearly underperformed in the 2024/25 season and Amorim has to bring them a level up.
Fernandes has already taken that step up under Ruud van Nistelrooy. He is expected to be a key player in the manager’s 3-4-3 formation.
The £54 million-rated star could be one of the two players behind the striker or feature in the midfield base.
Amorim has a big task ahead of him, possibly the biggest challenge of his career.
