Tottenham’s Opening Bid for Kudus Rejected as Summer Strategy Shifts

Tottenham’s move for Kudus falls short

Tottenham Hotspur’s efforts to sign Mohammed Kudus have suffered a setback after West Ham United rejected a £50 million bid for the Ghanaian international. According to TalkSport, Spurs tabled the offer last week but were immediately rebuffed by the ex-Europa League champions, who value Kudus significantly higher.

Kudus, who scored eight Premier League goals last season, has drawn interest due to his technical flair, power and versatility across the front line. He remains a player West Ham believe can reach double figures regularly. As per TalkSport, “there is a belief within the club that he can get his goalscoring into double figures”.

Shift in transfer targets

Spurs had previously shown interest in Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, but talks have stalled. Though Eze remains open to a move to Arsenal, no significant progress has been made by any club. Meanwhile, Bryan Mbeumo has attracted interest too, but is believed to be focused on joining Manchester United, with ongoing discussions between the clubs.

In a parallel development, Spurs explored a move for Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo but backed away due to the £65 million valuation. The Cherries confirmed on Monday that Semenyo had signed a new five-year deal, further ending any potential move.

Kudus open to Tottenham switch

Kudus is understood to be open to the idea of joining Spurs. He was previously the subject of a player-plus-cash bid from Chelsea, which was also turned down by West Ham. However, his name continues to dominate the discussion at Hotspur Way.

West Ham manager Graham Potter recently commented on Kudus’ development, suggesting his performance was impacted by structural issues within the team. “Sometimes when the team isn’t functioning as well as you’d like, individuals within the team can suffer with that,” he said.

Potter added: “He gives his best and the maximum he can… we can see the talent, we can see the potential but it’s our responsibility, and his, to try and get more.”

Saudi interest and pricing complications

Kudus has a £120 million Saudi-specific release clause, with Al Nassr reportedly interested. Nevertheless, both Spurs and Al Nassr believe West Ham would be willing to negotiate a deal far below that figure. Should Kudus join Spurs, he would be the first player to move directly from West Ham since Scott Parker in 2011.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

For Spurs fans, this feels like yet another transfer window that reflects more uncertainty than intent. Mohammed Kudus would be a statement addition, no doubt, but the rejection of a £50 million bid again underlines a broader issue: Tottenham are bidding without truly committing.

To lose out on Kudus after stepping away from deals for Eze and Semenyo feels disjointed. The scouting might be smart, but the execution lacks conviction. Fans will question why the club did not go stronger earlier, particularly when Kudus has already shown interest in the move.

It does not help that Chelsea’s interest looms in the background and that West Ham, reluctant to strengthen a local rival, hold all the leverage. Kudus’ ceiling is high, and for a club that has lacked consistency in attacking transitions, this is the kind of profile that could genuinely make a difference.

The concern is that while other clubs move decisively, Spurs seem caught between strategy and hesitancy. If this drags on and Kudus ends up elsewhere, the frustration among the fanbase will only deepen. Tottenham’s recruitment needs clarity, not another close call.
