Antony Pushing for Manchester United Exit as Real Betis Talks Continue

Manchester United face another summer transfer saga as winger Antony pushes for a move away from Old Trafford. According to CaughtOffside, the Brazilian is eager to seal a permanent switch to Real Betis after enjoying a successful loan spell in Spain during the second half of last season. With regular minutes key ahead of next year’s World Cup, Antony has made his intentions clear.

Betis Offers and United’s Valuation

United are said to be standing firm on their €40m asking price, creating a stumbling block in negotiations. CaughtOffside report that Betis have already submitted two proposals to the Manchester club in the hope of striking a deal.

One source told the outlet: “United continue to ask for around €40m, but Betis have put forward two different proposals – the first is a loan deal with an option to buy part of Antony’s rights, a solution that would fit more easily within the club’s salary limits. The second is a direct purchase of a percentage of the player for around €20m, which Betis would be ready to commit immediately.”

There is optimism in Seville that an agreement will be found, with Antony himself pressing for the move to be finalised quickly.

Pressure Mounting on United to Trim Squad

Antony is not the only player expected to leave Old Trafford before the window shuts. CaughtOffside highlight that Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho and Tyrell Malacia could all be moved on. Chelsea are believed to have a keen interest in Garnacho, while Napoli and RB Leipzig are monitoring Hojlund.

United’s transfer strategy appears focused on offloading players who have struggled to settle. Antony, in particular, has been a divisive figure since arriving from Ajax in a high-profile deal, and there is a growing acceptance that cutting losses may be the most sensible route forward.

Balancing Finances and Squad Depth

United’s firm valuation indicates a reluctance to repeat past mistakes where players were allowed to leave below market value. The €40m figure may seem ambitious given Antony’s patchy record in England, but it reflects both his age and his potential resale value if he shines in Spain.

Betis, however, must operate within strict salary restrictions and view a structured deal as the only realistic option. For United, agreeing to such terms risks losing leverage in future negotiations, yet stalling could leave Antony unsettled and unhappy within Ruben Amorim’s squad.

What Next for Antony?

The feeling is that Antony’s future lies away from Manchester. He enjoyed his spell at Betis, rediscovered confidence, and now wants continuity ahead of international commitments. As one insider explained to CaughtOffside, “Antony hopes to get this move done as soon as possible.”

With less than two weeks remaining in the transfer window, compromise will be required from one side. If Betis can stretch to a more favourable financial package, or United soften their demands, Antony’s return to Spain could be imminent.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

From a Manchester United supporter’s perspective, this report is yet another example of the club’s muddled transfer dealings. Antony’s signing was meant to be a cornerstone under Erik ten Hag, and now just two years later he is being hawked around Europe with Betis only willing to pay half of what United demand. It makes the recruitment department look naive and wasteful.

Ruben Amorim has been tasked with rebuilding a squad capable of competing again, yet he is being forced to manage players who clearly do not want to be here. If Antony has decided his future is in Seville, United should cut ties quickly. Dragging out negotiations only damages morale and keeps fans asking questions about why the board constantly mismanages assets.

The suggestion that Garnacho, Hojlund and Malacia could also be leaving is worrying. Garnacho is one of the few bright sparks from last season, and Hojlund is still young enough to improve. Offloading them in the same window as Antony would risk dismantling any semblance of squad depth Amorim has to work with.

Supporters have grown tired of seeing players leave at a loss while rivals strengthen with efficiency. If United hold firm on their €40m valuation, it needs to be for the right reasons. Otherwise, the club will once again appear indecisive and weak in negotiations.

In truth, fans would rather see quick, decisive moves that show United have learned from past mistakes. Antony wants out, Betis want him, so sort the deal and let Amorim focus on players who actually believe in the project. Anything else is just more of the same frustration supporters have endured for years.
