Swansea City have had a proud tradition of bringing quality players through their academy, and Luke Williams will be looking for the next star ahead of the 2024/25 season.

In recent times, the likes of Joe Allen, Ben Davies, Connor Roberts, Daniel James, Joe Rodon have all come through the club's academy and played Premier League football, whilst the likes of Ollie Cooper and Ben Cabango are now first-team regulars after progressing through the ranks.

Swansea boss Williams has already shown that he's willing to give youth a chance, and the 2024/25 season looks set to be a big year for a number of academy prospects.

With that in mind, here are 3 players that could save Swansea City millions in the years to come.

Filip Lissah

19-year-old centre-back Filip Lissah joined Swansea in the summer of 2021 after a spell at Chelsea, and has proven himself to be one of the stars of Swansea's academy.

After sitting on the bench a number of times in both the league and cup, Williams rewarded him with his debut off the bench in a 5-0 defeat to Bournemouth in the FA Cup, hardly ideal circumstances, but Swansea didn't concede a goal whilst Lissah was on the pitch, a good omen for the future.

The 19-year-old was a mainstay in Swansea's U21 side for their Welsh League Cup campaign, playing all seven games where they reached the final before being defeated by TNS, and he captained the side in wins over Cardiff U21's in the third round, and for their semi-final win over Cymru Premier side Cardiff Met.

He signed a new long-term deal with the club in March, showing that he's highly-rated and seen as one for the future, so he'll be looking to add to his solitary first-team appearance in the coming season.

Aimar Govea

Winger Aimar Govea made his first-team breakthrough at Swansea last season and the young Ecuadorian impressed in his brief cameos.

Govea only turned 18 recently, meaning he was 17 when he was playing for Swansea last season, and he caused defenders all sorts of problems with his pace and trickery.

The brother of former Swansea player Jordi Govea, Aimar is eligible for both Spain and Ecuador, and he played for Spain U17's before recently being called up to Ecuador's U20 side.

The winger featured from the bench in five Championship games towards the end of last season, and came close to scoring his first goal for the club, but his shot from distance against QPR hit the bar despite beating Asmir Begovic in the Hoops' goal.

With a full pre-season with the first-team behind him, hopefully Govea will kick on and see more game time with Williams' side when the new season gets underway, and he'll be looking to use the early rounds of the Carabao Cup to make an impact.

Kyrell Wilson

The only player on this list who hasn't made a first-team breakthrough yet, winger Kyrell Wilson has been a shining light for the club's U21 side, and it's only a matter of time before he gets an opportunity.

The 19-year-old joined Swansea in the summer of 2021 after previously being on the books at Chelsea, and he progressed through the ranks to become a standout player for the club's U21 side, putting him in contention to make his first-team debut.

He appeared in Swansea's matchday squad on three occasions last season, twice in the league and once in the FA Cup, but never made it onto the pitch, and that's something he'll be looking to change this coming season.

He's out of contract in the summer of 2025, so if he's to make an impact with the first-team, it'll have to be this year, and a strong pre-season will put him in the plans of the first-team coaches.

There has been a clamour amongst Swansea fans to see Wilson get a chance, and the 2024/25 season could see him make his long-awaited breakthrough.
