Entering the final season of a contract can put the player in the power position and there are some top footballers whose current deals expire in 2026.
Unless new terms are agreed, or a sale is made this summer, each of these players will be free to leave on a Bosman in 12 month’s time.
Some, including Victor Osimhen and Marc Guehi, are expected to leave for fees in the current window.
Others, including Brentford duo Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa, have optional extensions that the club can activate.
However, clubs including Liverpool – who lost Trent Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer this summer – Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan face nervous waits over key names.
Free agency has become big business, with this season’s crop of Bosman movers including the aforementioned Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool to Real Madrid), Jonathan Tah (Bayer Leverkusen to Bayern Munich) and Jonathan David (Lille to Juventus).
Expect some of the names listed below to be on the move this summer, with current clubs seeking a final fee, and rival sides hoping to capitalise with cut-price deals.
Here are 20 top players who have entered the final 12 months of their current contacts.
