The Bundesliga takes a break for the final international break of 2024, and 15 Borussia Dortmund players are set to be away with their respective national teams.
Including returnees Julian Brandt and Felix Nmecha, the Black and Yellows have four players in Germany’s squad for the final two games of the UEFA Nations League. Brandt will aim to make his first appearance in nearly a year, while Nmecha is yet to feature for the four-time World Cup winners since his debut in March 2023.
Nico Schlotterbeck and Pascal Groß have also once again been nominated by Julian Nagelsmann. There would’ve been a fifth BVB player had Waldemar Anton recovered in time from thigh injury.
With the new format adding a quarter-final stage, Die Nationalmannschaft have already progressed to the knockout rounds ahead of the upcoming games against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Hungary.
The Netherlands will battle Hungary as they look to follow their fierce rivals in getting out of the group. The two teams will meet in Amsterdam before Ronald Koeman’s side travel to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Doneyll Malen is one goal shy from reaching double figures for Oranje.
Gregor Kobel’s Switzerland will also be in League A action. But after a single point from four games, there is no chance for them to make the playoffs. They’ll face Serbia and Spain in hopes of avoiding automatic relegation to League B.
Switzerland’s new number one hasn’t returned to Dortmund’s lineup since an injury picked up in a despairing DFB-Pokal exit at Wolfsburg, but he’s still been nominated by Murat Yakin.
