17-year-old Canadian international Alphonso Davies has dazzled fans throughout the 2018 MLS season and has notched 6 goals and 11 assists in the process.

Global superstar Zlatan Ibrahimović and his LA Galaxy faced off against the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday. While Zlatan came out on top of the 3-0 result, the Swedish forward offered sage words of advice for Vancouver’s teenage sensation.

Davies will move to Bayern Munich when the Whitecaps’ campaign ends, either with an increasingly elusive play-off run or after the regular season concludes on October 28.

“A club like Bayern, he will learn a lot. If they saw something, they saw something big, because they don’t get anyone just like that.”

Bayern agreed to pay up to €18.75m with performance bonuses and a sell-on clause in Vancouver’s favor, a record fee for an MLS club.

While 36-year-old Ibrahimović never graced the Bundesliga stage in his storied career, he did enjoy stints in the Eredivisie, Serie A, La Liga, Ligue 1, and the Premier League. He advised the Canadian youngster to care for his mental and emotional state in order to play with confidence on the pitch.

“I just hope he’s ready when he comes there, because when he comes there he will be lonely and the competition will be big. So he needs to be mentally strong and when he sees the big players, not to show too respect. You go there for a reason.”

As an attacking player who dealt with moving to new settings at a relatively young age, Ibrahimović is certainly a knowledgeable fount of wisdom for Davies in that regard.
