Zinho Vanheusden Is Inter’s Most Expensive Signing This Summer, Italian Media Report | OneFootball

Belgian defender Zinho Vanheusden’s signing from Standard Liege represents Inter’s single most expensive transfer outlay of the summer.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who highlight that despite not being an immediate first-team signing, the 22-year-old Belgian cost the club more this summer than any of the other arrivals.

Vanhesuden returned to Inter from Standard, where he moved in the summer of 2019, and the club paid €16 million to bring him back before immediately loaning him out to Genoa to gain experience.

The young defender is considered a major prospect for the future and the fee paid for him reflects that fact, but the situation appears almost paradoxical given that more was spent on him this summer than on major signings who were brought in to replace departed Scudetto-winners.

Denzel Dumfries arrived from PSV to take the place of Achraf Hakimi, and Dutchman reportedly set the Nerazzurri back €12.5 million plus €2.5 million in add-ons, less than was paid for Vanheusden.

Meanwhile, Hakan Calhanoglu took the place of stricken midfielder Christian Eriksen but arrived on a free transfer from city rivals AC Milan.

After the sale of Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea, two forwards came in to take his place, but neither costed as much as Vanheusden did this summer.

Edin Dzeko was brought in from Roma, but the Nerazzurri wil only pay the Giallorossi a nominal fee of €1.5 million, conditional on qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

Lastly, major arrival Joaquin Correa was brought in from Lazio for a valuation of €31 million, down from the original asking price of €40 million, but Inter only paid €5 million to the Biancocelesti this summer, as the formula for the deal was a paid loan.

Once Correa makes an appearance for the Nerazzurri after next February 1, the Nerazzurri will owe the remaining €25 million plus add-ons to Lazio, but for now he, like the other summer signings, has not cost the club more than Vanheusden.
